Tribute ~

We joined Catster on January 27, 2008. Kujo somehow found her way to Olde Furts and met Scooter and the rest of the wonderpurr Olde Furts. While we were not extremely active in Olde Furts, we always looked forward to messages and postings by effuryfur, especially Scooter. Scooter had such a caring heart and was helpful to so many of the Olde Furts.

Scooter has been working her special, helpful information and giving inspiration even from the Bridge. My brofur Hooch, who joined Olde Furts when he turned 10 in August, wants to thank Scooter for the information she has sent him and the purrs for him during this illness from which he has been suffering in recent days. Thank you for caring for so many of us and for offering needed advice and suggesting places for us to visit to gain more knowledge on our problems and the help we need.

My furmily is very fornunate and blessed to have known Scooter and to call her a furiend. We will remember you furever, with laughter and sadness. Our furmily sends love and heartfelt purrs to your furmily!
We love you!

Kujo and Hooch

My eye's speak of love and if I could have shown you in person, they would have said how thankful we were to have you in our lives. Moms major support was from your "Olde Furts" group.
Oh Scooter, how you inspired us. You are our Angel Of Inspiration. We will miss you but we know, you will live on in the hearts and eyes of others. The eyes are the windows to our souls and the souls are bonded eternally. Until we meet again my friend....and we will. Enjoy the peace that you so well earned. We had the best moms and a long blessed life. Sweet dreams little girl, I shall share them with you.

Princess Scooter: sleeping expert, chicken eater and forever friend

Scooter first gained notoriety as a princess to her mom and dad, later turning that Siamese-given right into a fruitful (and toy-full, catnip-full and chicken-full) career as a Caster cat extraordinaire, a life journey culminating with her becoming one of the world’s most well-known and well-loved cats.

The Albuquerque, N.M., native was a devoted sleepaholic who also never missed a celebration (whether holiday or birthday). Her expert opinion was frequently sought on all-things Olde Furts, and she was known for her years of research on chicken baby food and its delicious benefits. A goodwill ambassador on the Catster forums, she’d always lend a paw to any cat in need.

Little sister to the beloved late SooLing, Scooter became a “big sister” to many cats and kittens on Catster, including The Morning Scratch’s very own Kat 3. “We are Siamese sistahs forever,” Kat 3 said.

Her skills were many, but she may be most remembered for her mastery of relaxation during her Summers of Scooter, a series of seasons celebrated by all.

To give proper recognition to a cat who has so deeply influenced The Morning Scratch staff, the newspaper has named Scooter an honorary editor. SooLing also holds the title, named to it years ago in a Morning Scratch “Scooter” special edition spearheaded by the staff and Scooter’s dear friend Kazumi Joy.

Morning Scratch staffers are honored to share some of their memories of Scooter, a forever friend and role model. She will be greatly missed.

“Scooter was a distinguished community leader and a generous friend. As a loyal reader of The Morning Scratch, she was integral to the newspaper’s success. And her catnip toy gifts have helped many of our reporters through difficult assignments.”
— Bogdan, Morning Scratch editor

“Although I did not get to know Scooter very well, my superiors speak very highly of her. When I’m not busy fetching treats and reporter’s notebooks for my bosses, I sneak in a few play sessions with the toys she’s sent the staff.”
— Jeff, Morning Scratch intern

“Scooter was the best fashion consultant a model could ever wish for. A few years ago, she gave me a diamond ‘S’ for my collar, which I wear each day to this day. It’s my lucky charm and reminds me just how beautiful I am. But Scooter, she was the most beautiful!”
Sara, Morning Scratch reporter

“Scooter Scooter Bo Booter! She was awesomest. Even though I am only half-Siamese, she made me feel like I was part of a very exclusive club. She taught me everything there is to know about being Siamese. She taught me about chicken baby food, crooked tails, zooms, outside adventures, toys, snuggle sacks, sleeping, chicken baby food, lizards, scratchers and the joys of mommy arms — and did I say chicken baby food? I teehee’d and pffft’d with her through good times and bad times and food times. I will miss her a lot, but I know she is watching over me. I love you, Scooter.”

Farewell, My Lovely

I tried all yesterday to write about my darling Scooter, but it’s hard to type when your paws are soaking wet.

Now that ain’t right! Because along with being sweet, sensitive, thoughtful and smart, Scooter was funny as hell! I laughed out loud every time I got one of her poop reports. They were so detailed (and frequent) that Coco's Department of Homeland Security made her a Poop Advisory Color System chart to keep track. For a while she sent us daily Monk-e-mails that made her look like one of The Jeffersons, sound like Dame Edna, and cause my Mom to blow coffee out of her nose at work.

(In this picture, Scooter is escaping from her Mom's collectible bears!)

Scooter fell asleep at parties, but she did know how to have fun. When my brother Mouse started his gallery, Mouseworks, she created some very original “earth art” by digging up corn kernels in her back yard. One of Baby’s first friends, Scooter co- founded Olde Furts with her. But it took Scooter to transform a cranky Meezers’ refuge into a source of hope and help, good humor and hugs for hundreds of Catster’s aging kits. Old age ain’t fur sissies, and Scooter was up to the task

Sometimes I think of Scooter as Catster’s Princess Di, just a bit long in the tooth. Her skill, as her profile read, was love. Nobody didn’t love Scooter. And Scooter loved everyone back. Her gift, I think, was for seeing—not so much the best in everyone, although that was often the case, but rather for seeing just what made you, you. She was a great connoisseur. What else would a classy lady like Scootie be doing with a naughty boy like me? And a Democat at that?

Catster is a community built on intangibles: love, imagination, compassion and memory. So even as Scootie leaves the physical plane her spirit remains as one of the cornerstones of our community. But at this sad time we must also remember that these cats are beautiful avatars; what animates them, for all of us, what makes them what they are, is the people who love them in real time.

And for Scooter’s parents, life won’t be the same. No snoozing Scooter in the sunny window perched on her favorite sofa, not to sleepy to tell an interloper, “Hiss off.” No skinny Scooter teetering gamely along as she “walks the line” in her backyard, looking for lizards, daring that roadrunner to make another appearance. No Scootie, so silly in her baby buggy. Or lying on their legs at night.

Scooter was my entire family’s friend and my “secret fiancĂ©.” We loved her with all our hearts and will miss her every day—as will all her Catster friends. But it’s to Bonnie and Dean that we must send our love, our appreciation, and our most comforting purrs.

My mentor, Scooter

Ani Siamese all grown up! - Feb. 2009

Oh, Scooter . . . my beloved Siamese buddy.

So young was I when first I paw-wrote you a furriend message. I had just listened to you talking fur my first time. (Thanks to your wonderful purrson for putting audio clips on your Catster homepage, along with all those lovely photos of you!) I was pawstruck by your deep tones, your purrposeful trilling, your clever phrasing. Many times thereafter I went back and listened to you talk. I’ve yet to master purrfect Siamese vocalizations. I keep trying. I hope you can hear me.

When you celebrated your 20th birthday in October 2008, my purrson and my corgi dogs and I were so happy. We did a meowy birthday dance around the room. I would’ve delivered my favorite celebration smoothie to you if Albuquerque weren’t too far away. We felt so grateful that your meezer genes and good fortune had given you such longevity.

My purrson says she has known many marvelous cats over the years, but she’s sure that there’ll never be another cat so marvelous or so missed as you.

I’ll always remember you with a smile, dear Scooter! How I treasure my memories of your mentorship!

I named a star after you, and that’s where I’ll be looking to meet up with you when my turn comes.

We all shine on, Like the moon and the stars and the sun.
Yeah, we all shine on, On and on and on and on.

Baby Ani Siamese, the way Scooter first knew her.

Tribute from Flicka, Lucas and Cleo

Scooter was my Pal in Pawsome Pages... her Mum was always there as steady as a rock to help out.

I am saddened that Scooter is now at the Bridge... BUT... she had the most wonderful loved and very long life.

Go chase sunbeams Scooter... we'll hold the fort a bit longer while you search out the warm corners.

With Love

Forever Hugs From Hannah

Dearest Scooter, I sat here, fussing to myself about what to write that hasn't been written so many times already, trying to find some original words to describe a truly original friend. But my thoughts are as fuzzy as my fur. All I can say is I miss you, and I loved you, and I hope you knew that all along. With forever hugs and purrs,
Hannah

Shall I Compare Scooter to an Endless Summer's Day?

Dear Scootie,
I am writing this in longhand, with a quill no less, because when I got to heaven they didn’t have broadband yet. I tell you, old age ain’t fur sissies. But you know that. That’s how we met, when I first came to Catster.

The other day I was rereading what was probably our very first email exchange. We were both in “For the Meezers” and you were secretly pmailing everyone in the group about Coconut’s 20th birthday!
“We have some kitties in the group with a few years on them, don't we?,” you wrote. “ I was 17 on Oct. 23, 2005. How did they discover you were 18 instead of 15? Did you feel any different after you found out? Do you think we should form a Geezer Meezer group? Heeheehee”

Well, that was the beginning, both of Olde Furts, and our friendship. Now eventually you became closer to Ray (wink wink) and you had to keep an eye on naughty Coco and pay some attention to your other suitor, Mouse. But we stayed in touch, keeping up on our aches and pains, our failing kidneys, skinny butts and food fetishes. And when I left, just a few days short of my 20th birthday, you and your Mom helped my Mom understand that she had done the very best for me she could.

And so, I wanted to dedicate a poem to you. I wrote it long ago, before I knew you, but I think it’s fitting.

When I in sated reverie am lost,
My belly girded with a rich repast,

I clean my fur and then, with claws, I floss,
And think of you, and all the charms thou hast.

Like Tender Vittles--nay, like chicken flesh!

Or better still like some forbidden fruit:

The Häagen -Dazs that makes my innards thresh

(And to perchance despoil my mistress’ boot)

But lest thou doubt my deep respect for thee--

And think my similes of food uncouth--
I swear before all of eternity
Thy beauty must be nourishèd by truth.

If music is the food of love, proceed!
I’ve had my fill of poetry--let’s eat.

Oh, and here's a picture of the card you sent me on my...let's see...19th birthday I think.

Thank you for being our introduction to Catster, and thank you for being our friend.

We all love you Scootie!

Baby

Scooter is my aunt and this makes me special. She may be aunts to others as well, but she is MY aunt!

For Our Dutchess

Scooter is a-zooooming
Down the hallway in a flash!
Perhaps she sees angel SooLing
Chasing pom poms at a dash!

Scooter's eyes are remarkable
They radiate so blue
But even more important
Is the kindness in their hue.

They portray a calmness
Certain, interior and rare
That Scooter, a true dutchess,
Takes upon herself to share.

Her beauty is ephemeral,
Unacquainted with Time,
It reaches beyond the corporeal
to be ever-honored by the wind bell's chime.

With eternal love, Elsa

Scooter, the Heart of Catster.

Scooter has also been a wonderful friend to our family. She was always there with words of encouragement when one of us was sick. She comforted us when our dear Flinders crossed the bridge. We will miss her but know she will always be the heart of Catster.

Shall we dance...

I loved to dance with you Scooter, such grace, such a lighthearted spirit. There are no words to tell of how much you are loved and always will be. Your heart was twice as big as Texas and so full of love and compassion for those who came to the old furts home. You greeted all and made effurryone feel right at home and were full of so much cheer one could never stay sad. You purred for my lil sisfur Biscuit as she went thru all her test and multitude of medicines, she really looked up to you as a great meezer she wants to be like. Our dream is to live the long and loved and cherished life lived to the fullest as you did. Godspeed sweet Scooter. You will always be with us..because you now live in our hearts...and watch over us from the bridge till time we meet again...save a dance for me.

Hugs, purrrs, and much love,

Tribute from Daisy and Cathy to Scooter

I met Scooter just before Valentine’s Day in 2006. I had been on Catster about 6 months and was just starting to know some cats. I don’t remember where I saw it, but Scooter posted that if you wanted a special Valentine from her to send her your address. So I did. And one of my dearest friendships here on Catster was begun. The Valentine is still on our refrigerator.

Our friendship grew when we had questions about how to do something special on our Catster page and Ray's Mom sent us to Scootie. "She can help," he said. And she did. She and her Mom spent days (and a bit of $) trying to help us get one song we wanted on my page. I knew then that Scooter was a true-blue pal.

Scooter also was a great comfort to us when my big sis Sophie died in Nov. 2007. They were pals from the Olde Furts group. Scootie sent Sophie a heating pad to sleep on that kept her comfortable her last few days.

I found out that one of Scootie's nicknames was Doodle. One of my nicknames is Doodle also. So I started calling Scootie "Scoodle," so we wouldn't confuse each other!

Scoodle sometimes has her voice or her purr playing on her page. I like to hear her purr, but I LOVE hearing her voice. I always get excited and rub against the computer speakers when I hear it. It sounds like she is right there in the room, so I look behind the monitor and around the computer, but I can never find Scoodle!

My Mom went out to Albuquerque in October and got to meet Scooter in person. She said she was sweet and beautiful, just like she is on Catster. Scooter’s Dad gave us some special pictures of her that we will always cherish.

Scoodle … Mom and I love you and your parents so much. We are so sad that you had to leave us, but we will always remember your sweet face and your cute voice. We thank your Mom and Dad for sharing you with us for the past 3 years. We will never forget you, sweet girl!

Your friends forever

Dear Scooter

What can we say about our dear friend Scooter that hasn't been said already? We met Scooter a couple of years ago in Olde Furts and she quickly endeared our hearts. She reminded our Mommy of the Meezer she grew up with named SueLynn sort of like Scooter's Sisfur SooLing, so she knew all about that big loving meow. We loved reading Scooter's diary, looking at her beautiful photos and Birthday videos, and all her fun adventures in her yard. She was always so friendly and wise and we miss her so much. Thanks to her loving Mom & Dad for sharing her with us. Scooter, you will always be in our hearts.

Love Always;

Tribute from Maxwell

Scooter was beautiful inside and out. Those lovely blue eyes! She always thought of others, she made us laugh, and shared our tears when we lost a friend. When I first joined Olde Furts, she made me feel welcome from the start. I remember how much fun we had trying to bribe her when we had Furt of the Day! Scootie, I can't think of a sweeter kitty and I am honored to call you friend.

Love, Maxwell
